In this series of beauty portraits, Brazilian photographer Andrea Dematte has collaborated with makeup artist Aya Komatsu—to create a series of pictures that reinterpret the work of five modern artists, utilising the face as a three-dimensional canvas.
“Because my work is so focused on the face and body, I found inspiration in the London museums and galleries like the National Portrait Gallery and the Tate Modern,” says Andrea, who studied contemporary art at the University of the Arts (UAL) London and film at the MET school in 2015. “Being able to see up close how the face has been portrayed throughout history and through modern times has given me insight on creating powerful and iconic images of people.”
